The project aims to improve access to books, foster a reading culture, and create a welcoming, engaging, and inspiring learning environment for primary school students. It also marks the 160th book collection and library project implemented by the Fly To Sky Charity Network since 2019, representing another milestone in its ongoing efforts to bring books, educational resources, and dedicated reading spaces closer to children across Vietnam.
Transforming an Existing School Space into a New Library for Students
With primary funding from Neweb Vietnam Co., Ltd., the White Dove Library project at Nam Xang Primary School was developed by renovating and upgrading an existing school space, equipping it with essential facilities, and providing books and educational materials suitable for primary school students.
Before implementation, Fly To Sky worked closely with the school's Board of Management to assess the existing facilities, identify practical needs, and agree on an appropriate implementation plan. The project focused on three key areas: renovating the library space; providing furniture and equipment for reading, book displays, and storage; and expanding the collection of books and educational resources to support learning and promote a reading culture.
Rather than focusing solely on the number of books donated, the project was designed to create a welcoming, accessible, and engaging reading environment tailored to the school's actual needs. The new library encourages students to explore books independently, discover their interests, and expand their knowledge beyond the classroom.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives of local Party committees and authorities, the Nam Xang Commune Youth Union, the project sponsor and implementing organizations, as well as the Board of Management, teachers, and students of Nam Xang Primary School. During the event, representatives officially inaugurated and handed over the library to the school for ongoing management and use.
One of the most memorable moments of the ceremony was seeing students enter their new library for the first time. Following a tour of the facilities, many eagerly selected their favorite books, found comfortable places to read, and explored the newly completed reading space with their friends.
This joy was reflected in the heartfelt words of Tran Ngoc Ha My, a student from Class 5A1: “I’m very happy that our school has a new library. From now on, I’ll make an effort to read more books.”
A Joyful Milestone for the School and Hopes for Fostering Lifelong Reading Habits
For Nam Xang Primary School, the project not only enhances educational facilities but also fulfills the long-awaited hopes of teachers and students for a well-equipped and welcoming reading space.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Ms. Tran Thi Mai Huong, Vice Principal of Nam Xang Primary School, expressed her sincere appreciation and gratitude to the project sponsor and partner organizations for their support in bringing the new library to the school. She emphasized that the library represents a significant source of joy for both teachers and students, who had eagerly anticipated having a dedicated reading space.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Mai Huong, books are an invaluable educational resource, particularly for primary school students. The school has consistently integrated reading activities into its teaching practices, aiming to nurture a love of books and encourage students to explore knowledge independently.
The addition of a well-designed reading space will enable teachers to organize more reading promotion activities while providing students with greater opportunities to access books regularly within the school environment.
“That is why this new library brings such great joy to our students,” Ms. Tran Thi Mai Huong shared.
The project at Nam Xang Primary School highlights the importance of mobilizing community and corporate support to strengthen educational institutions. Beyond addressing the need for books and essential facilities, such initiatives contribute to improving learning environments and creating greater opportunities for students to develop independent learning skills, critical thinking, and a spirit of exploration.
However, for a school library to deliver meaningful and lasting benefits, the initial investment must be accompanied by effective management, regular use, and sustained reading activities. Following the official handover, Nam Xang Primary School will take direct responsibility for managing and operating the library, ensuring that its books and educational resources are meaningfully integrated into learning activities and educational programs appropriate for students.
Beyond Donating Books: Creating Sustainable Reading Spaces with Lasting Impact
The library is part of the White Dove Book Collection Project (Tủ sách Bồ câu trắng), an initiative launched by the Fly To Sky Charity Organization in 2019 to support education and promote a reading culture within communities across Vietnam.
Through this initiative, Fly To Sky brings together businesses, organizations, philanthropists, and community members to donate books and establish book collections, libraries, and dedicated reading spaces in schools, residential communities, classrooms in mountainous and border areas, hospitals, shelters, social welfare facilities, and underserved communities where access to books and educational resources remains limited.
The project places particular emphasis on supporting disadvantaged children, students in remote mountainous areas, ethnic minority communities, and schools facing shortages of reading facilities and educational resources. Depending on the specific needs and local conditions, each project is designed and implemented on an appropriate scale, ranging from community book collections to renovated and well-equipped school libraries.
For Fly To Sky, the true value of a library project is measured not only by the number of books donated or facilities provided, but also by how effectively these resources are used and the long-term benefits they continue to bring to the community after completion.
A well-funded library that is rarely used may struggle to achieve its goal of promoting a reading culture. In contrast, a thoughtfully designed and actively maintained reading space, supported by dedicated teachers and enthusiastic students, can gradually become an environment that nurtures curiosity, independent learning, and a lifelong love of reading.
With this approach, Fly To Sky prioritizes identifying and implementing projects based on the actual needs of beneficiary schools and communities. The organization also emphasizes close collaboration with schools and local authorities to ensure that donated books, equipment, and reading facilities are effectively managed, regularly utilized, and maintained for long-term educational and community impact.
Building on the 160th Library Project to Expand Access to Knowledge and Education
The inauguration of the White Dove Library at Nam Xang Primary School marks another milestone in Fly To Sky's efforts to establish accessible reading spaces for children and communities across Vietnam over nearly eight years.
From its first book collections in 2019 to the completion of its 160th library and book collection project, this journey reflects not only the growing number of reading spaces established but also Fly To Sky's continued commitment to mobilizing social resources and fostering partnerships to improve access to books, educational opportunities, and knowledge for children and local communities.
For the new library at Nam Xang Primary School, Fly To Sky hopes that its impact will extend far beyond the excitement of the inauguration day. The organization envisions students returning to the library as part of their everyday school lives, discovering books that inspire them, sharing what they have learned with friends, and gradually developing a lasting habit of reading.
Fly To Sky extends its sincere appreciation to Neweb Vietnam Co., Ltd., the project's primary sponsor, for its valuable support and commitment. The organization also expresses its gratitude to the Nam Xang Commune Youth Union, the Board of Management, and the teachers of Nam Xang Primary School for their close collaboration and contributions throughout the project's implementation and completion.
Through the White Dove Book Collection Project, Fly To Sky looks forward to continued partnerships with businesses, organizations, and community members to establish more libraries and dedicated reading spaces in underserved areas. These collective efforts aim to bridge gaps in access to books and educational resources, promote a sustainable reading culture, and create greater learning and development opportunities for children across Vietnam.
The true value of a library lies not only in its inauguration, but also in every book opened, every reading habit developed, and every opportunity given to the younger generation to explore the world of knowledge.
Mr. Le Van Phuc, Director of the Fly To Sky Charity Network and Founder of the White Dove Book Collection Project, shared.
