The program combined essential support with experiential and community activities for the children. In addition to donating an R.O. water purifier and essential supplies to the facility, the program included activities such as making traditional star-shaped lanterns, interacting with the Moon Boy and Moon Lady characters, watching a lion dance performance and celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with the children.
When community activities address both material and emotional needs
For children living in social protection facilities, community activities can provide more than material support. They can also create opportunities for recreation, experience and connection.
During the “Happy Mid-Autumn Festival” program, the children took part in making traditional lanterns, cultural exchanges and group activities. These experiences gave them opportunities to express their creativity, interact with peers and volunteers, and enjoy the festive atmosphere with members of the wider community.
According to Le Van Phuc, founder of the Fly To Sky Charity Network, the program aimed to give the children a Mid-Autumn Festival that included not only gifts, but also memories, care and moments of joy.
From charitable activities to corporate participation
A notable aspect of the program was the direct involvement of employees and volunteers in organizing the activities. Rather than contributing resources alone, members of Dialectica Vietnam and Fly To Sky participated in guiding, supporting and caring for the children throughout the program.
This approach demonstrated how corporate social responsibility could take different forms, with direct employee participation providing an opportunity to strengthen connections between businesses and communities.
Alongside essential support such as the water purifier and supplies, creating a space for recreation, interaction and shared experiences also helped address the emotional and social needs of children living at the facility.
The program was supported by young MCs Yen Ngan and Phu Vinh, as well as Thang Anh Duong Lion and Dragon Dance Art Troupe.
Creating meaningful experiences for children in difficult circumstances
A Mid-Autumn Festival program may last only a few hours, but the experiences created during that time can extend beyond the material value of the gifts provided.
By allowing the children to make their own lanterns, participate in games, watch lion dances and celebrate the festival together, the program became an experiential community activity rather than simply a gift-giving occasion. This approach also encouraged greater participation and interaction instead of focusing solely on one-way support.
The collaboration between businesses, social organizations, volunteers and individual supporters demonstrated how social responsibility could be implemented through accessible activities that responded to the needs of specific beneficiary groups. When such initiatives are organized with clear objectives and involve multiple stakeholders, they can contribute to more meaningful and lasting community value.
