On May 26, 2026, the “Hoa tháng Năm” (May Flowers) Library was inaugurated at Hòa Thịnh Primary School in Hòa Thịnh Commune, Đắk Lắk Province, Vietnam.
The project was implemented by Fly To Sky Charity and Community Development Support Social Enterprise Co., Ltd. and the Fly To Sky Charity Organization (affiliated with the Vietnam National Volunteer Center under the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union), with support from Nguyễn Phương Anh and the fan community of artist Kay Trần.
The library features 1,000 carefully selected book titles, along with bookshelves, reading tables and other equipment intended to support reading activities at the school. These resources provide students with greater access to reading materials beyond their regular curriculum, creating additional opportunities for learning and independent exploration.
Turning fan engagement into community participation
The “Hoa tháng Năm” project was developed to celebrate Kay Trần’s birthday. Its name draws inspiration from “Flowers,” the name used for the artist’s fan community.
Rather than limiting the celebration to activities within the fan community, supporters chose to contribute to a school library initiative. This approach extends the social connections created through music and entertainment into an activity that serves an educational purpose.
The initiative also reflects the potential role of interest-based communities in addressing local needs. Fan communities, for example, can contribute resources to educational, environmental or social welfare initiatives when connected with organizations that understand implementation requirements and local circumstances.
In this case, the project involved coordination with local Youth Union organizations, the Vietnam Youth Federation, the local Young Pioneer Council and the school administration. Their involvement helped connect external support with the school's needs and the practical requirements of establishing the library.
A New Library, More Opportunities to Access Knowledge
The “Hoa tháng Năm” (May Flowers) Library is the 155th library established by Fly To Sky under its White Dove Bookshelf Project (Tủ sách Bồ câu trắng). The initiative aims to develop reading spaces, provide books, and promote a reading culture in schools, social care facilities, hospitals, and communities across Vietnam.
With 1,000 book titles, bookshelves, reading tables, and other essential equipment, the library provides students at Hòa Thịnh Primary School with an additional space to read, acquire knowledge, and explore subjects beyond their textbooks.
For primary school students, regular access to books not only broadens their knowledge but also helps develop vocabulary, reading comprehension, critical thinking, and creativity. Having a dedicated reading space within the school makes books more accessible and encourages children to gradually develop reading habits and independent learning skills.
Through this initiative, Fly To Sky and its partners continue to contribute to improving children's access to books and educational resources, particularly in communities facing limited educational resources.
Turning Support for an Artist into Meaningful Community Action
One of the most notable aspects of the May Flowers Library is not simply the number of books donated, but how the project came together through the collective efforts of Kay Trần's fan community.
Motivated by a desire to celebrate the artist's birthday in a meaningful way, the fan community chose to collaborate with Fly To Sky to establish a library for local students. Rather than focusing solely on commemorative gifts or celebrations, the initiative has resulted in a facility that the school and future generations of students can continue to use in the years ahead.
The collaboration between the fan community, social organizations, the school, and local partners also demonstrates that meaningful community initiatives do not necessarily have to begin as large-scale campaigns. When individuals and groups work toward a shared goal, their collective contributions can help address practical needs within local communities.
What began as a birthday celebration has become a reading space for students at Hòa Thịnh Primary School. The project illustrates how connections formed through music and entertainment can extend beyond fan activities, creating opportunities to support education and deliver tangible benefits to local communities.
